First, my thanks in advance to anyone who reads through this and offers any feedback. I am teaching a 12 hour class to 5-7 graders over 4 days, 3 hours each. I have created handouts about chemicals-Soda Ash and Urea and what they are for, Folding diagrams from prochem site, notes about folding-going slow, creating even folds, etc and dyeing-making a plan, using toothpicks to check between the folds, etc.

Monday Day 1-Project dye socks with Primary colors, create secondary colors and dye pillow case in swirl design with complimentary colors.
De-prep socks and pillow cases-soak soda ash/spin dry
Paige/De set up dye stations-separate from folding (I hope)
Paige: Color wheel Handout (1 per station)
Ice Breaker-Color questions, Learning styles
Break into groups via learning styles-count off

It sounds like a great workshop that focuses on color as much as tie-dye. I'll have to read it over a few more times to get detailed visualization of the flow.

How many kids (sorry if you mentioned that elsewhere)?

Could you offer a broader context? Is this part of a rec program? Where is this taking place? Will the students select this class from a menu of choices?

Whatever the case, these kids willl walk out with a rich introduction of dyeing and color!

The maximum is 20. I won't have an exact count until just before the class begins. So I am basing all on 20. 4 stations to dye, fold etc. I am grouping the kids (hopefully) by learning style.

It is offered through a "College for Kids" program via the local Community College. I had applied to do a one-day adult class and was asked if I would do the 4 day class too.

I have a simple science component too, describing what the chemicals are for. The actual act of tying and dyeing something doesn't take very long usually and I had to come up with 12 hours worth of material.

This is the summer for tie dye around here. Peanuts cartoon character Woodstock is featured (see link) and tie dye is everywhere.

My claim to fame is that I am mobile. I can take it all to you and do a party or any group event. Since I volunteer at local treatment centers I have the set up to travel.

I am so excited...I called and as of today I have 10 kids registered. Knowing that there are kids signed up makes all this up front work worthwhile.

Thanks to all of you who have made suggestions and answered my questions!
